Explain the project and its unique use of masonry materials and techniques:
Burch Creek School
Combining affordability and flexibility is always a challenge, however both were critical in the design and construction of the Burch Creek Elementary School. With its durability and wide range of colors and textures, concrete masonry units was the product of choice. Masonry allowed the designers to achieve the look and feel they wanted in this prototype school. Creating an environment for learning as well as maintaining overall aesthetics, value and structural integrity was achieved using masonry.
Honed face units were used on the inside corridors, combing different colors to create a pleasing look and feel. The exterior combines split face, hone face accents, single score units, and varying colors, to create an inviting feel to the overall structure. The soldier coursing over the windows adds an interesting touch.
With the Wasatch mountains as a backdrop, this project will be a tremendous addition to the city and community of Ogden Utah.
