Explain the project and its unique use of masonry materials and techniques:
BYU College of Life Sciences is a large college classroom building clad in brick, precast, and glass. Large CMU columns wrapped with brick veneer surround the lower levels and support structural architectural precast beams and heads that carry the brick walls above. The building is 118 feet-tall and is terraced into the hillside on the south end of the BYU campus with brick walls stepping back along the roof at each. Brick patterns include large rectangular panels laid out of 2-1/4 Normans in the 3-color BYU blend surrounded by Manhattan colored modular soldiers and rowlocks. Another unique feature of this building is the brick cladding of two large light wells inside the footprint of the building which serve as light wells and create two separate courtyard areas.
