Explain the project and its unique use of masonry materials and techniques:
The design of the Cache County Exhibit Hall was to utilize the durability of CMU to mimic a country aesthetic with the red barn feel. The color of the brick plays a large part in the design of the rural, country design.

A unique combination of CMU and steel construction made this barn-like design come to life. The County had been holding the fair in three turn of the century wood construction buildings. The thought of removing them to make way for a single massive modern structure was difficult and emotional for many community members who had grown up going to the fair.
However, the aging structures were more costly to repair than to replace.

The new facility is much bigger than the older buildings and the design challenge was to develop a massive envelope for the exhibit hall that would have some of the rural charm of the older and much smaller wood structures.

The design team incorporated a country barn theme that was welcomed by the community and contextual to the function. Though large, the facility is approachable and welcoming to all enjoying the fairgrounds. The community is very pleased with their new building.
