Lassonde Studios uses suspended flat brick panels to cap the end of the curved building mostly clad in copper. The brick walls are supported floor to floor with a halfin system that allows the wall cavity to be continuous from top to bottom eliminating the needs for flashing's floor to floor. The light colored brick provides a sharp contrast from the dark colored metal panel and copper cladding. The brick walls appear to float above the first level.

The brick walls are supported floor to floor with a halfin system that allows the wall cavity to be continuous from top to bottom eliminating the needs for flashing's floor to floor. The light colored brick provides a sharp contrast from the dark colored metal panel and copper cladding. The brick walls appear to float above the first level.
Lassonde Studios contains approximately 161,000 gross square feet of new construction on 5 levels. Approximately 12,000 square feet of student “garage” work space will be on the ground floor level with administration and other support areas with four levels of housing above. The student housing on the upper four levels will accommodate 400 students. Therefore, there is approximately a total of 27,000 square feet of student garage space to support the Lassonde Institute’s need for student space dedicated to entrepreneurial pursuits. Building systems will be flexible and durable. A concrete frame structure organized around a “universal grid” (24’ x 24’ foot bays) has been planned. This layout supports the three types of housing (modular, loft and single/double units) contained in the Lassonde Studios. Though only targeting LEED Silver, it is important that the project be a high performance, energy efficient and an example of the best sustainable practices in alignment with the construction budget and the project vision as a center for innovation.
