Weber County School district wanted a modern looking school that didn’t look like a spaceship. MTHN was able to achieve the desired look by designing the with masonry. The sustainable nature of the masonry design give Silveridge Elementary School prominence within the community without distracting from the peaceful nature of the neighborhood. The building is divided by grade level into pods of five classrooms. Each “pod” will be connected via sliding glass doors that can be opened to create one large collaborative space for the grade level as a whole. Noise transfer is virtually eliminated. The building houses two maker-spaces, taking the place of traditional computer labs. These spaces will be a place for hands-on learning with modeling clay, building blocks, a 3D printer and potentially robotics equipment. |
